On it's 7th episode, Iba Yan highlights the importance of supporting local businesses. The team heads to the Shoe Capital of the Philippines, Marikina City. Angel Locsin first visited the Marikina Shoe Museum and right after then, she heads on the streets of Marikina through Marikina tram and on their first stop, she met the local shoe repair man Tatay Rey.
Tatay Rey is a 61 year old local shoe repair man in Marikina. He first studied the basics of shoe making way back 1985 and started his own shoe repair stall 2 years later.
"Super masipag, gusto niya 'yung hindi kami magugutuman kaya kailangan pag-uwi nya may naiuwi na talaga syang pagkain at ulam" says Nanay Flora, Tatay Rey's wife.
Because of the pandemic, Tatay Rey is not earning as much as he did before and to help with the household expenses, Nanay Flora decided to start a small business.
"Lahat-lahat walang hanapbuhay kaya po naisipan ko na mag gawa-gawa ako ng kakanin. Minsan po may nag-oorder sa online. Para makaraos lang sa araw-araw" Nanay Flora emotionally said.
Angel Locsin learned more about Tatay Rey's story. She also learned the basics of shoe repair through his help. When asked how's the repair shop doing amid the pandemic, Tatay Rey said "Wala nga mam ang kinikita dito mam e. Mahina eh. Minsan kumikita lang ako ng 300 minsan 400 minsan Zero (wala)"
As usual, Iba Yan did not come empty handed and gives Tatay Rey some gifts that is very helpful in this time of pandemic. Apart from Ligtas bags and Relief packs, they gifted Tatay Rey and his family a "kabuhayan package" through the help of Marikina City Mayor, Mayor Marcelino Teodoro. The team also surprised Tatay Rey with a new and customized shoe repair table! Tatay Rey also received "ibayanihan" kit from Zapateria and Mayor Marcy Teodoro which includes new and forward tools for shoe repair.
