Since ABS-CBN went off the air last May 5th in compliance to NTC’s cease and desist order, they have reportedly been losing 30M - 35M pesos daily. ABS-CBN bosses fought for the network to be given a chance to once again air on free TV but after 12 hearings in the congress clearing all the allegations thrown at them, they were still denied of a fresh 25-year franchise.
They have been off the air for more than two months now and have decreased their operations because of a limited platform. On an official statement made by the network last July 15, they announced that because of the non-renewal of the franchise, they’ve come to a sad decision to retrench some employees. They promised to give the employees concerned benefits in accordance to the law like separation pay, retirement benefits and the likes.
It is disheartening knowing that people are losing their job amid the pandemic. Some Kapamilya stars cannot help but sympathize to their fellow Kapamilyas who will lose not just their job but their second family.
On his twitter account, Vice Ganda wrote
“Mahihirapan ngunit kakayanin. Madadapa ngunit babagong muli.”
Karla Estrada also send her support to her fellow Kapamilyas and on Instagram she wrote
“Mahigpit na yakap mga Kapamilya. Darating din ang araw na tayo ay magkakasamang muli at hawak kamay nating haharapin ang bagong bukas na taas noo kahit kanino in God’s perfect time.”
Angel Locsin posted three broken heart emojis on her official Facebook account expressing her sadness upon hearing the news.
This is such a sad and uncertain time for ABS-CBN and its employees and while these people grieve, it is just disheartening that some are celebrating their misfortune. We may have different stand on issues like this and we can always agree to disagree but celebrating someone else’s misfortune will always be inhumane.
